Unveiled at the recent Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este on the shores of Lake Como, the Motorrad Vision K18 is BMW’s vision of what performance, luxury and long-distance riding could look like if its designers were allowed completely off the leash.
At the heart of this uncharacteristically wild concept sits a traditional 1,800cc inline six-cylinder engine, an iconic powerplant that has powered BMW’s touring bikes for decades. But rather than hide it beneath acres of bodywork, the German marque has made the mighty six-cylinder the entire reason for the bike’s existence.
The silhouette is dramatically long and low, with BMW’s designers taking inspiration from high-speed aircraft such as the Concorde. The result is a motorcycle that its designer claim looks like it’s travelling at 200mph even while standing still.
BMW calls the design philosophy “The Heat of Speed” (very German), with bodywork that’s designed to evoke the shimmering heat haze that dances behind a jet engine. You know, like you find in those cool cinematic shots in Top Gun.

Just wait for the details: there are six intake tubes feeding the engine, six exhaust pipes integrated into the broad rear end and six LED headlights up front as a visual nod to the six-cylinder architecture. Some of the aluminium body panels have even been painstakingly shaped by hand, including a seamless side section that’s more than two metres long.
The suspension can be hydraulically lowered, the headlight features active cooling and the bodywork combines aluminium, forged carbon and flame-sprayed metallic finishes inspired by old Formula 1 exhaust headers.
As BMW Motorrad CEO Markus Flasch puts it: “For us, the inline six-cylinder is far more than an engine – it is a statement.”
The Vision K18 certainly makes one.
Whether it ever reaches production in anything resembling this form remains to be seen, but a motorcycle inspired by the Concorde and powered by a giant six-cylinder engine? Where do we sign?
