It’s ok, we hadn’t heard of Compass Rose either. Well, not until the company rocked up at this year’s Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and kinda blew a few minds with its sleek array of electric cafe racers.

The company, which is based in the unassuming Songpa-gu neighbourhood in Seoul, Compass Rose builds a handful of all-electric two-wheelers. There’s a slightly more madcap, Akira-styled Dandelion and the latest Ciulator — a cafe racer that wears Bonneville Salt Flats-inspired streamliner body work.

Ciulator, which is literally pronounced “see you later”, features a frame fashioned from Reynolds 953 steel tubing from the UK,  a Cordovan leather seat sourced from Argentina and a 34-hp BLDC in-wheel hub motor that produces a peak torque of 350 Nm.

This is good enough to propel the 1950s-inspired racer to a top speed of 150 mph. We’re not sure what those kind of speeds will do to battery range, but the Samsung packs are good for around 93-miles on a single charge according to Compass Rose.

Pricing is also a little bit confusing, as the company told us the Ciulator starts at around $40,000-$50,000, which we assume is for the range-topping Track version. There’s also a Standard trim that comes with a 10-hp electric motor that tops out at 93 mph and offers around 80-miles of range. But these are only on sale in Korea for now.

In terms of styling, the sleek carbon fibre body work that shrouds the battery pack is designed to resemble a combustion engine in the Ciulator, complete with cooling fins and pipework that has been fashioned to throw onlookers off the planet-friendly scent. 

Epically cool or slightly cheesy? We aren’t so sure. We will let you make up your own minds.
